Setup
Boards are placed at a distance of 27 feet from the front of the platform. The pitcher's box from which the bags are to be thrown extends 3 ft. on either side of the board and runs the length of the board from the front to the back. The front of the board forms the foul line and is not to be crossed while in the act of throwing. Bags thrown from outside the pitcher’s box are considered null and will not be counted in official scoring.
Play
Each round begins with the team (or individual) that scored the most points in the previous round. Thereafter, a member of the opposing team on the same side takes his turn throwing the bag. The round continues with alternating throws from each team until all eight bags have been tossed, at which point the score for the round is tallied. The first team to reach or surpass 21 points at the end of a round wins.
Scoring
Every bag that lands and remains on the board when the round ends is worth one point. Every bag that lands in the hole is worth three points. With four bags thrown by each team the maximum possible number of points in any given round is 12 (4 bags x 3 points). Cornhole utilizes what is known as cancellation scoring. Only points scored beyond the opponents total points are counted for the round. For example, if one team scored four points and the other team scored two points the total score for the round would be 2 (4 - 2 = 2 points).
